Dear Parents:
We hope that this Parent's handbook will be a valuable asset for you as your youth begins their faith journey with us here at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire.
Welcome to the YUTES (Youth Under the Everlasting Savior). The youth group of the First Congregational Church of Cheshire is open to all youth that are in the 7th grade through 12th grade. Our youth groups are ecumenical. We meet Sunday nights from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Sunday Program
We begin every youth group meeting right at 5:00 p.m. with prayer and dinner (The cost of dinner is $3.00 per YUTE each Sunday). At 5:30 p.m. we begin our programs for both age groups, Jr. High and Sr. High.
Programs consist of skits, games, topic discussions, debates, faith questions, theology, and FUN. Programs run for about 1 hour.
We finish each evening with a worship time of singing and prayer. This is one of the favorite times for everyone. We all leave singing and with our spirits lifted up.
New Members
To join our youth group all that new members have to do is show up on any regular Sunday and join us in our time together, share with us their thoughts, wishes and dreams. We ask that you fill out a "Visitor Slip" -- and if you come three times, you'll be a regular member of our group!
Health Forms
Health Forms are a must for anyone coming to Youth Group. This is very important information, especially for those that have food allergies, or special medical needs. We need this information in case of an emergency. The health form is available by clicking HERE. The completed form needs to be turned in to the church office by the second meeting that the youth attend.
Permission Slips
All retreats, lock-ins and offsite programs need to have a permission slip filled out and returned to the church office before the deadline date. This helps the Youth minister in two ways; first it gives us the count of those who will be participating in that event and secondly it helps with having enough cars for transportation. Regular meeting time is at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sundays. The Calendar may change at any time during the year but will stay current on the website. Check here often!
IMPORTANT MESSAGE - WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Each week we share fellowship by eating dinner together. The cost to each person is only $3.00. Please be sure that your youth contributes their share each week.
Dinners are prepared by volunteers (usually but not always parents of youth) who gladly give of their time. The $3.00 per youth helps to offset some of the expense.
More importantly, the program doesn't work if we have no one that comes forward to cook. Each week about 30 youth attend our meetings and yet we are struggling to find parents to volunteer.
Please consider volunteering to cook for just one week. You can even share the work with another family if you prefer. We will provide up to $50.00 per week as seed money/reimbursement so we just need your time - not your financial contribution.
